Personal care is help with the most private parts of the day. It works best when the person feels in charge, so our carers ask, explain what they’re doing and go at the person’s pace.
What this can include
- Getting up in the morning and getting ready for bed
- Washing, showering and bathing
- Dressing, hair care, shaving and make-up
- Using the toilet, and continence care
- Skin care, and noticing and reporting changes such as redness or sore areas
- Moving around safely, including using equipment such as a hoist when it’s part of the care plan
Done the way the person likes it
The care plan records the details that matter: the order of the morning routine, favourite toiletries, whether someone would rather have a male or female carer. Carers follow it so nobody has to explain themselves twice, and we match preferences wherever we can.
